Invisalign is a new, innovative way Dr. Fan uses to move teeth into a more straight and aesthetic alignment. It uses a series of clear aligners that put pressure on your teeth and cause very fine, minute movements. When the first aligner feels like it is no longer putting pressure on the teeth, you then move on to the next set of aligners in the series. Invisalign is a simple, easy, and effective way for you to achieve the straight smile you’ve always wanted.
The main advantage of Invisalign is the convenience of not needing to maneuver around wires to keep your teeth clean. Invisalign aligners are removable, so you don’t need to modify your diet to avoid sticky or hard foods. Also, any attachments (tiny buttons attached to the teeth to facilitate the aligners’ effectiveness) that are placed are tooth-colored, so when you wear Invisalign, it doesn’t look like you’re wearing an orthodontic appliance at all!
With Invisalign, Dr. Fan can treat a variety of situations, as long as your case isn’t overly severe. Most of our patients have great success with Invisalign to treat:
• Gapped teeth
• Crowded teeth
• Overbite
• Underbite
• Crossbite
If your case is too severe for Invisalign, you may have to resort to another treatment option, like traditional metal braces or clear braces. To be absolutely sure, make an appointment with Dr. Fan at our Freehold dental office for a consultation.
What to Expect with Invisalign
Your Initial Consult
At Advanced Family Dentistry, we strive to improve patient comfort with technology. We use iTero® Element™ digital impressions for Invisalign. The iTero scanner takes hundreds of pictures and stitches them together to form a 3D model of your teeth. The fit and comfort of Invisalign aligners is far superior compared to aligners made using traditional impression material.
Treatment Length
The length of time to complete Invisalign varies from case to case. The main thing you can do to ensure a speedy treatment is compliance. Unlike traditional braces, which do not give the option to remove the appliance, patients who do not keep Invisalign in long enough will extend their treatment.
Visits to Our Office
Depending on the case, if you are disciplined in wearing your Invisalign aligners for 22 hours per day, you may not need to visit our Freehold dental office for adjustments. You only have to come in to the office to verify the fit of your aligners and receive new sets.
Changing Your Aligners
Make sure that when you think you are ready for the next set, you feel that the set that you are currently on feels passive, meaning no pressure on your teeth. Prematurely moving on to the next set can cause a snowball effect where the next set will not effectively move your teeth and future sets start to fit improperly. At this point, the only way to fix this is to create a new treatment plan and remake all your Invisalign aligners.
